Mirissa

  Mirissa

There's a solid reason why Mirissa is one of the most well-liked beach towns in southern Sri Lanka. Beautiful Sri Lankan beaches, excellent surfing waves, and waters rich with marine life, from little turtles to large blue whales, are all present in the vicinity. Enjoy eating wonderful food from coastal eateries, relaxing in your hammock, and riding around on a motorbike during the day. The ideal amount of time is four days to really experience Mirissa's laid-back atmosphere and all its main attractions.

Even though Secret Beach is no longer a well-kept secret, it nevertheless has the atmosphere of a far-off island paradise! The small, isolated beach in Mirissa is nestled around the corner from the main beach and is a little more difficult to reach. As a result, there are less people at the beach, and if you arrive early enough, you can even have it to yourself!

On this headland, there are three lovely beaches to select from, each with special features like rockpools and coconut palm trees. Spend the day swimming in the clear blue sea, snorkeling amid the amazing marine life (be on the lookout for turtles! ), and taking it all in at this little piece of paradise.

The beaches are free to visit, however if you want to help the locals who work here and support their livelihoods, consider purchasing some food, beverages, loungers, or snorkels from them.

To get there, look up Secret Beach bar on Google Maps and get a tuk-tuk to drive you there. Since the route is too steep for tuk-tuks, you will need to walk for 10 minutes from the drop-off location.

Mirissa Beach is just in front of Parrot Rock, a large red mound that dominates the surrounding water. Due to the stunning views of the palm tree-lined beaches below, it has become one of the greatest things to do in Mirissa.

You'll need to investigate the tides because Parrot Rock is out at sea; low tide is the best time to cross because you won't get wet. In particular during the monsoon season when the waves will be high, crossing during high tide can be risky.

When you get to the rock, ascend using the shaky stairs. You may enjoy lovely views of Mirissa from here. Though it can get crowded, sunset is a particularly popular time to visit. We advise waking up early and climbing at sunrise because of this. You can observe the Mirissa skyline at this time and enjoy the gorgeous early morning pinks and oranges as the light filters through the lush palm trees.

One of the best things to do in Mirissa is to visit Coconut Tree Hill, one of Sri Lanka's most Instagrammable locations. The private coconut plantation, which has some of the nicest views in the region, is only 15 minutes' walk from Mirissa Beach.

Once you've ascended the hill, the headland spreads out in front of you, giving you breathtaking views of the ocean through the numerous sagging palm palms. To get the best shots, we advise going at sunrise when less people are around.

Google Maps will show you where Coconut Tree Hill is. You can stroll down the beach if the weather is agreeable and the tide is low. Be warned that you could occasionally have to walk through water. In that case, you might stroll along the highway that follows the shoreline.
