The mountain range has seven peaks, the highest of which is "Ura Kanda," and it is 1,158 meters high (3,800 ft). Cloudy and icy conditions are typical of this mountain range. There are occasions when the mist disappears, leaving the entire area in plain sight. Views of Kandy city are stunning from the peak's summit.

The Dolosbage range of Aranayake, the Sabaragamuwa hills, and the Knuckles mountain range were all visible in the summit view. If you want to climb Hanthana, it is best to start your journey early in the morning before the sun starts to cause you problems. The climb to the summit will take about 4 to 5 hours, and the descent will take another 3 to 4 hours. There isn't a set path that leads to the mountain. If you like, you can climb to the peak and even make the trek more difficult. But it is advised that you bring a guide. If you don't, you'll get lost because some paths can be difficult to find in the mist. Water is hard to come by throughout the ascent, so be sure to pack some and other necessities. You may come upon plants, wildflowers, chattering birds, or dozens of butterflies along the road. When taking pictures at the mountain's summit, exercise caution. Many people enjoy visiting Hanthana because it is an interesting and exhilarating place to explore. The Peradeniya-Galaha Road and the Kandy-Udawela Road both lead to the foot of the mountain range.

Local university students enjoy the mountain range, which is frequently shrouded in mist, and refer to the top as Adara Kanda (mountain of love). Institution students make it a point to visit this mountain range all year round because the Peradeniya university is nearby.

Although you can also hire a cab, most tourists take the train to Kandy before transferring to a bus or tuk-tuk to get to Dalhousie. You might arrive to Sarasavigama, the Amaya Hills hotel, or the University of Peradeniya.
